Grapes protected by netting in the vineyards Gustafson Family Vineyards, at 1800 feet elevation above the Dry Creek Valley, represents a unique terroir as the highest elevation estate vineyard and winery in Sonoma County. Benefiting from warm summer days and late afternoon Pacific breezes, the vineyard is sustainably farmed with respect for the vines, the land, and the wine-making process.
As its founder, Dan Gustafson, states, “We listened to the land to preserve the balance of nature that was here before we arrived. We farm sustainably using organic compost, pesticides, and a permanent cover crop that all help to support and improve the living soil.”
“Farming this natural vineyard requires extraordinary effort. Slopes are steep, requiring special equipment. Vines must be covered with netting before August
Sustainably farmed vineyard.to protect the grapes from wild birds that inhabit the vineyard – birds that eat insects year-round, reducing the need for chemicals. Vineyard management includes protection from deer, wild pigs, and turkeys. It is a reasonable price to pay for this unique terroir, and the opportunity to produce unique wines."
“Our estate wines are all made from hand picked grapes grown within a ten-minute walk of the winery. This creates an opportunity for the winemaker to walk the vineyard daily from bud break to harvest.”
The winery, barrel cellar, and tasting deck are all set in the heart of the vineyard, inviting you to linger and take in the best view of Sonoma country while enjoying our unique estate wines.
Special Tours of the vineyard and winery are available to wine club members.
Tasting Room open on Saturdays 10 – 4. Other hours available by appointment, please call 707-433-2371.
