The Winery

Barrel tasting Sonoma County
Dan Gustafson and Emmett Reed

Our wines are produced exclusively from grapes grown at the vineyard. The lean, rocky, volcanic soils produce grapes with smaller berries and more intense flavors. Grapes are ferented, in open-top bins with a cold soak of several days, manual punch-downs, and extended maceration. We seek to produce wines that demonstrate a consistent style, while reflecting the nuances of every vintage.

Gustafson Family Vineyards consulting winemaker, Kerry Damskey, is renowned for bold, red wines made from high elevation vineyards. The winery has benefited from his more than two decades as a distinguished winemaker, his brilliant sense of taste, and a shared sensitivity to the land. With Kerry’s guidance, our wines capture the essence of this unique vineyard.

Emmett Reed, winemaker and vineyard manager, has previously worked under the direction of Kerry Damskey at two wineries. He is responsible for the day-to-day wine-making process and oversees the vineyard operation. Emmett has demonstrated a strong affinity for the land on which he works and for creating outstanding estate wines. He lives at the vineyard with his wife, Jessica, and their winery dog, Rampage.
