Winery Update 2021
Official Update from Gustafson Family Vineyard March 2021
Greetings friends of Gustafson Family Vineyard,
“A Message from the Gustafson Family”
The Next Chapter
In 2002, our family purchased 87-acres just above lake Sonoma, which came to be known as Gustafson Family Vineyard. We became stewards of the land, planting premium, high-elevation grapes, and an olive orchard. We built a home, winery, and estate tasting room.
We made our first wines four years later with a young cellar master, Emmett Reed, who become our very accomplished winemaker. Eager to learn, together we mastered the science and art of fine winemaking.
Over the years we cultivated a wine club with the goal of becoming a sustainable business, and to share our home, the view, the warm hospitality of our team, and of course, fine wines. Out dedicated team of Emmett, Tara, and Steve became the heart and soul of the label bearing our family’s name.
We have been honored to share our wines and hospitality with you and your friends.
On August 23rd, 2020 – the Lightning Complex Fire (also referred to as LNU) struck our property, destroying Emmett’s home, our barns and farming equipment, a section of the vineyards, and the entire 2020 crop, as well as our beloved madrone known as the Heritage Tree. As most of you know, thanks to the brave crews of Cal Fire, the main house was saved with minimal damage.
Things can be replaced, and the land will take time to heal, but some of the losses incurred cannot be so easily repaired. Emmett, Tara, and Steve have experienced a mandatory evacuation each of the past three years. The emotional stress has weighed heavily on them. Hearts broken, they have all decided to move on, to pick up the pieces and begin anew. We support each of them in their decision.
With the losses on the property and of our team, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue operations as a winery.
The winery and tasting room will remain closed indefinitely. It is our hope to reopen the vacation rental in the near future, refreshed and better than ever, and that you will continue to stay in touch and perhaps visit.
On behalf of Emmett, Tara, and Steve, and our family, we thank you for your support and the many good times we shared together. Our glasses are raised to you.

Thank you for the memories!
Hands down the prettiest winery I have ever seen. The view from the overlook out into the valley is absolutely amazing! It doesn't hurt that they are now one of our favorite wine producers - we took more bottles of wine from Gustafson than any other location.

We were a party of four that stayed at this amazing house. From the minute we made inquiries to the booking the house and staying, the team that welcomed us was great. We spent every night setting out there eating, drinking wine and watching the stars. Then there are the sunrises! Get up early every day and watch it happen as it makes your day complete.

It is isolated and off the beaten path relative to some of the densely populated winery locations, but that is part of its charm in my book. I've never had an out-of-town guest be disappointed in the least by this venue for all the reasons above.

Glass of wine in hand. This IS one of those smaller vineyards people dream of. Truly breathtaking location - the VIEW! - and a wonderful story of a dream in the making. Plus - Bonus - excellent wines and exceptionally welcoming people. Go there and join their circle of wine-appreciating friends.
