"In water one sees one's own face; but in wine one beholds the heart of another"
Gustafson wines are a reflection of our unique mountain estate and the passionate individuals involved in their creation.
Gustafson Family Vineyards is Owned by Dan Gustafson, his daughter Kristen Khanna, and his son Jeff Gustafson. The integrated home and winery that Dan and his craftsman colleagues have created are both a workplace and retreat for Dan, his wife Jaime, the Gustafson family and their friends. The family intends to keep the vineyard property feeling like a private home, a place they enjoy hosting visitors and wine lovers from all over the world.
Winemaker & Vineyard Manager
Emmett lives onsite and has built a reputation for producing bold red wines from our unique high elevation vineyard. Gustafson has benefited from his hands-on approach to vineyard and winery management, his brilliant sense of taste, and a shared sensitivity to the land. Emmett lives at the vineyard with his wife, Jessica, their son, Cormac, daughter, Sabine, and their winery dog, Rampage.
Emmett Reed manages our estate vineyard in partnership with Javier Rivas of North Pacific Vineyard Management. Javier and his fantastic team have been working with our vines since 2008, and our vineyard practices are certified sustainable under their license.
Tara joined the Gustafson team in November of 2015 to work fulltime in hospitality and sales for the tasting room. In January of 2017 she was promoted Tasting Room & Wine Club Manager! Growing up in California’s East Bay area and earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Wine Business Strategies in 2014 from Sonoma State University, she decided to pursue a career in wine business. Coming to Gustafson with two years’ previous experience in the industry, Tara is very excited and grateful to be a part of the Gustafson team and is looking forward to providing an exceptional guest experience for all of our customers and wine club members.
Estate Manager & Assistant Winemaker
Steve is an East coast transplant; he was raised in New Jersey and lived in Brooklyn before ditching the city life to move out to Sonoma County. He was a regular at our winery before we recruited him to pour wine in our tasting room. His customer service experience and work ethic has made him an excellent addition to our team. You can catch Steve on his days off playing music, swimming in the Russian River, or flying around Healdsburg on his skateboard with his friendly pup Reyla.
Tasting Room Sales & Hospitality
After falling in love with the beauty, the culture, and the spectacular wines of Sonoma County, Nancy moved here in 2004 from the beaches of Southern California, bringing with her decades of experience in sales and customer service. Nancy joined the team at Gustafson Family Vineyards in June of 2018, working full time in the tasting room for sales and hospitality. Now she enjoys sharing her affection and knowledge with our Gustafson guests, allowing them to join in her enthusiasm and appreciation.
Catering & Events
With such a small team, our success at large events depends entirely on the dedication of our industry partners and event volunteers. Our events are catered exclusively by Baci Cafe & Wine Bar in downtown Healdsburg, under the brilliant guidance of Head Chef Shari Sarabi and Owner Lisbeth Holmefjord.
Our events are staffed by a core group of volunteers who have supported Dan’s vision since our doors opened in 2009. Our industry partners and event volunteers have greeted thousands of guests with delicious food, warm smiles and friendly hospitality, and have helped create Gustafson’s strong reputation for excellence.
Rampage is our beloved winery dog. He is Emmett’s loyal vineyard companion and our official tasting room greeter. He has also been known to spend long weekends with our vacation rental guests. He leads impromptu tours of the vineyard for tasting room guests, keeps our estate gopher-free, and loves to chase tennis balls. Sadly, as of May 2019 our beloved Rampage is no longer with us, but he surely lives on in our hearts and our memories!
